Mission Statement
The Huntington Hospital Surgery Residency Program’s mission is to provide a culture of excellence, where residents are exposed to extensive operative, clinical, and research experiences, and to prepare them to become highly skilled, competent surgeon leaders in their chosen fields.
Vision Statement
Our surgery residency training program aspires to excellence in all aspects of surgical education. We are dedicated to becoming a nationally recognized training program with the purpose of educating a community of surgeons who are dedicated to excellence, and who are committed to advancing the practice of surgery for the benefit of patients everywhere.
The General Surgery residents at Huntington Hospital receive an individualized learning experience and benefit from close interaction with our teaching faculty. Participation in the operating room begins at an early level, under direct supervision, which provides a rigorous exciting learning experience. Huntington Hospital performs more than 12,000 operations annually and with the absence of a fellowship program, residents perform the majority of all procedures on the various teaching services. Surgery residents are immersed in advanced technologies including intensive robotics and laparoscopic training, specialty and sub-specialty led conference schedules, and an American College of Surgeons accredited Surgical Skills Lab curriculum.
“Huntington Hospital’s surgery residency program is renowned and highly sought after for good reason. Its comprehensive curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, and distinguished faculty create an exceptional learning environment. The early hands-on operative experience is unique and prepares residents for successful careers in surgery. With each post-graduate year, I become more and more grateful to be able to complete my surgical training here.“
-Jade Nguyen, MD
General Surgery Chief Resident
“Huntington Hospital’s surgery residency training program offers the best of high-end academic surgery, multi-disciplinary care, and high volume clinical practice. I liken the training at Huntington to being at a tertiary care community facility – you get incredible exposure to complex surgical disease, bread and butter procedures, all in high volumes by both general and sub-specialty surgical practitioners.”
