As a designated Magnet hospital, Huntington Hospital is a recognized leader in nursing excellence. Every day, our nurses go above and beyond for our patients, and we are proud to recognize them for their efforts.
The DAISY Award was established by The DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, and created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
Huntington Hospital’s October DAISY Award winner Mary Gasparian, RN, was nominated by a patient who wrote the following:
“I experienced my very first hospital stay at the age of 86, the entire staff was very good at all times, but one nurse stood out in doing what she was trained to do. Mary put my family and I at ease. She was prompt in responding and efficient in all tasks. She always had an upbeat manner and pleasant. Respect was shown to me in every situation. She was genuinely caring, concerned and patient in thoroughly explaining any instructions to my wife and me. Her cheerfulness was a sincere indication that she enjoyed her job and loved her patients. Her sense of humor brightened my day for my family. Thank you for making a difficult situation bearable. I really think she is the epitome of the DAISY award.”
