As a designated Magnet hospital, Huntington Hospital is a recognized leader in nursing excellence. Every day, our nurses go above and beyond for our patients, and we are proud to recognize them for their efforts.
The DAISY Award was established by The DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, and created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
Throughout the year, Huntington Hospital invites patients, family members, physicians and fellow staff to nominate a nurse for The DAISY Award. The January 2018 DAISY Award winner is Christina Shafer, RN.
Christina was nominated by a fellow nurse who wrote the following: “Christina has been a member of the skin and wound resource team (SWRT) for a few years and recently has taken on the responsibility of educator to the team, training SWRT RNs and PCAs on their roles as educators on their home units. Her assuredness and authority inspire confidence, and her generosity as a resource to the team is appreciated by all. Christina’s willingness to take on this position in addition to her role as a staff RN, is an example of her pursuit of excellence in all aspects of her nursing practice. When I work with her as my “buddy RN,” I come away impressed by the superior quality of her patient care and inspired to step-up my own practice. Christina is a supportive RN and an enormous asset to 5 West and I am grateful to her for all her hard work.”
