As a designated Magnet hospital, Huntington Hospital is a recognized leader in nursing excellence. Every day, our nurses go above and beyond for our patients, and we are proud to recognize them for their efforts.
The DAISY Award was established by The DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, and created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
DAISY award winner is Mary Knight, RN.
Our February DAISY award winner was Mary Knight, RN. She was nominated by Andreina Hernandez, RN, who shared: “I wanted to let you know about my experience floating on 5 East on a very busy day. I had never worked with Mary, and I was truly touched and amazed by how sweet, informative and helpful she was. She kept coming up to me, offering help. I knew she was busy, yet she took time to couble check on my patient when I asked for help. Everyone was very helpful but she stood out so much. I want Mary to know her kind heart and helpfulness was truly appreciated and touched my heart so much. It made the fast pace of the unit go by well.”
March DAISY winner Deborah (Sue) Horn, RN
Our March DAISY award winner was Deborah (Sue) Horn, RN. Sue was nominated by a patient who shared: “Everyone at Huntington Hospital was an angel, but Sue stood out from the rest. Sue spent time with me and I learned so much from her. It is evident she has a heart of gold. I wanted to go home soon, and realized this wouldn’t be possible, as I required IV antibiotics. I began to cry and Sue came to comfort and reassure me. Sue discussed options with my physician and different types of care, she was really an advocate. Finally, Sue came in and said, “I have good news for you, you can go home.” She saved me, my angel saved me. The care she provided made such a difference in my life.”
