The Prostate Cancer Program at Huntington Hospital provides advanced screening, diagnostic, surgical and radiation oncology services to individuals with prostate cancer.

To aid our patients and their families, the Prostate Cancer program employs a Prostate Cancer Nurse Navigator to answer any questions and provide education, support and coordination services.

Patient Pathway
At Huntington Hospital we employ advanced diagnostic methods to accurately stage cancer and guide treatment decisions. We are one of the few hospitals on the West Coast to offer advanced 3T MRI diagnostic studies that more accurately detects whether a cancer has spread beyond the prostate gland to the surrounding tissues or organs. This state-of-the-art technology enables highly accurate staging of the cancer which prevents either over-treatment or under-treatment. We also use PET F-18, or positron emission tomography with a specific fluorine-18 tracer for diagnosis, staging and monitoring treatment of prostate cancer. Along with traditional imaging studies, including bone scans, CT scans and ultra-sound, these advanced technologies provide patients with information on the extent of their cancer so they may select the best treatment strategy and options.
Following a biopsy, tumor tissue samples are reviewed by multiple pathologists with special training in the area of prostate cancer to make sure the grade (Gleason’s score) of the prostate cancer is accurately described and interpreted.
A multidisciplinary team of prostate cancer specialists meets regularly to discuss cases and treatment in our tumor boards, to customize and tailor the best therapy for patients facing difficult treatment decisions. This also allows our patients the opportunity to consider new treatments and to participate in clinical trials.
Radiation Oncology
Led by Ramona Kyaw, M.D., the radiation oncology department brings together board-certified radiation oncologists specialized in prostate cancer care.

Leading edge radiation therapies include 3-D reconstruction treatment planning with cone-beam CT and multi-leaf collimators, and two new state-of-the-art linear accelerators to deliver intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and image guided radiotherapy (IGRT), allowing a more precise delivery of radiotherapy with avoidance of normal tissue which can minimize treatment side effects.

Surgery
Huntington Hospital is one of the first regional hospitals in Southern California to offer the da Vinci robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy procedure in treating prostate cancer. Your care team will determine if surgery is the right treatment option for your cancer and whether robotic radical prostatectomy is right for you.
Medical Director Armen H. Dikranian, MD, Robotic Surgery Program
In addition to serving as our medical director of robotic surgery, Dr. Dikranian is also chief of surgery at Huntington Hospital. He has extensive experience in urology and advanced robotic surgery.

Dr. Dikranian attended college at the University of Southern California, and continued on at USC Medical School. He went on to complete two years of general surgery training and four years of urology residency at the Kaiser Foundation Medical Center in Los Angeles.

We offer integrative oncology services as part of our support network to balance the whole person – physically, mentally and emotionally – while state-of-the-art conventional medicine does its work.

Community Outreach Prostate Education Group (COPE)
Free support group, providing education and discussion for men with prostate cancer. Spouses and family members are welcome to attend, refreshments will be served.
This group meets the first Thursday of each month from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Stress Management/Group Meditation Program
Huntington Cancer Center hosts this free stress management / group meditation group. Many people with cancer feel stressed, helpless and isolated. Let us help you make your recovery easier.
This 6-session group meets on Tuesdays in the Huntington Pavilion North Lobby. Sessions are free but seating is limited, RSVP is required.

Somatic Stress Relief Program (TRE)
Learn to release stress and chronic tension using simple and gentle vibrations in the body (therapeutic tremors).
This is a free 5-week group program but seats are limited so RSVPs are required.

Therapeutic Massage
Massage therapy benefits include reduction of muscle and joint pain, softening of surgical and scar tissues, improved sleep, and much more.
Massage therapy sessions cost $40 for 30 minutes, $60 for 60 minutes, and $80 for 80 minutes. No tipping is allowed.

Nutrition for Cancer Survivors
This free nutrition class will help cancer patients who have completed treatment focus on a healthy path to wellness.
Nutrition classes meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
