Nutrition Counseling

Our mission is simple: build a healthier community. It’s what we’ve been doing for over 130 years, and today we’re doing it in more ways than ever before.

Nutrition Counseling

At Huntington Hospital, we offer clinical nutrition counseling services for patients staying in the hospital, as well as any outpatients with a physician referral.

Outpatient Nutrition Services

We believe good health starts with good nutrition, and we are committed to helping all our community members make healthy lifestyle changes. Personalized nutrition education and counseling services are available to any outpatients authorized for nutrition education, even those who were not treated at our hospital.

Schedule an Appointment with a Registered Dietitian

Outpatient Nutrition Counseling appointments are available Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 3 pm. Appointments are offered in several formats: in-person at Huntington Hospital or virtually (via phone or video conference formats).

Clients require a physician’s prescription, referral, or authorization for outpatient nutrition counseling. Physician referrals should be faxed to the clinical outpatient nutrition office: (626) 397-2217.

For more information, please contact our outpatient dietitian at (626) 397-8450. To schedule an appointment or inquire about insurance, call the Pre-Admissions Call Center at (626) 397-5600 ext 6.

Inpatient Nutrition Services

Our inpatient nutrition group provides unit-based, personalized nutrition assessment for all inpatients with any nutritional health risk.

Clinical dietitians develop and recommends a nutrition care plan that is in alignment with the patient’s specific health needs. Areas of focus may include, but are not limited, to malnutrition, diabetes, congestive heart failure, bariatric surgery, stroke, and kidney failure. The clinical dietitian monitors adequacy of nutrition intake and tolerance to prescribed diet, recommends nutrition support or supplementation when needed, works with patients to assist in the understanding of nutrition goals and provides educational materials for lifestyle changes as needed. Additionally, the clinical dietitian will refer patients to outpatient nutrition counseling for ongoing assistance and support in adhering to the prescribed diet. The goal of the clinical dietitian is to improve patient outcomes from admission to beyond discharge.
