Jenny and Jason Hamilton wanted a baby for a long time. In June 2019, discouraged after years of trying and not getting pregnant, the Hamiltons decided to try something different. They created an email address with the username futurekidhamilton. Jenny and Jason, already proud pet parents to two dogs, wanted to affirm their desire to welcome a human baby, too. They used the email to send heartfelt messages to the child they hoped would one day complete their family. Two years later, the couple’s dream finally turned into reality: Jenny was pregnant with a baby boy.
As Pasadena residents, Jenny and Jason were familiar with Huntington Hospital’s reputation for excellence. Jenny’s sister-in-law, who also received care here when she was expecting, raved about her Huntington experience.
“They treated her with so much personal attention,” says Jenny. “Everyone made sure she was comfortable and created a soothing environment for mother and baby, before, during and after the delivery. I wanted that same positive birthing experience when it was my turn.”
Because Jenny was 39 years old, her pregnancy was considered high-risk. Jenny and Jason found Michael Mitri, MD, a Fair Oaks Women’s Health obstetrician, and right from the start felt they were well-cared for. “We had so many questions going in, but we knew we were in good hands,” says Jason. (Fair Oaks Women’s Health, a long-standing obstetrical and gynecological practice in the San Gabriel Valley, recently joined Huntington Health, an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai.)
Throughout her pregnancy, Jenny hoped she would be able to give birth naturally. As the day grew closer, it looked more and more like she would need to have a cesarian section. But when Jenny arrived at our Family Birth Center for her scheduled surgery, she was already eight centimeters dilated. She tried to push, but her baby’s heart rate was dropping, fast. Jenny’s care team responded quickly, performing an emergency c-section. The procedure was a success, and the Hamiltons welcomed Harvey, a healthy baby boy.
Today, Harvey is thriving and meeting all his growth milestones. He started walking at 10 months and his curiosity knows no bounds. “You only get one shot at the birth of your first child, and they really got it right for us,” adds Jason. “We tell everyone to choose Huntington.”
